ONNX is organized into Special Interest Groups (SIGs), persistent groups responsible for specific parts of the project. There are many ways to get involved with a SIG, from contributing code, docs, and reviews to helping triage issues — and, for those looking to take on more responsibility, leading a SIG.
We are currently looking for candidates for two SIG Lead openings, listed below. If you are an active ONNX contributor with ideas for where one of these areas should go, or you'd like to get involved in a SIG in another way, we would love to hear from you.
Current SIG Lead Openings
Models & Tutorials SIG Lead
This SIG maintains the onnx/tutorials and onnx/models repositories and the ONNX community on Hugging Face, with the goal of providing a comprehensive, up-to-date collection of ONNX models and making it easy for newcomers to get started with ONNX and its ecosystem.

Compilers SIG Lead
This SIG is responsible for compiler solutions that optimize and lower ONNX to representations consumed by further compilers or runtimes, including sponsoring projects such as onnx-mlir, and for making the ONNX standard more amenable to compiler technology.

What does a SIG Lead do?
Per the ONNX governance, SIG Leads are organizers and facilitators for their SIG. Responsibilities include:
- Drive a regular (at least monthly) SIG meeting, and delegate leadership of individual project meetings where useful.
- Keep up-to-date meeting notes, linked from the SIG's page in the sigs repository.
- Announce meeting agendas and minutes on the SIG's Slack channel and/or mailing list.
- Periodically report the SIG's activity to the broader ONNX community, e.g. in community meetings.
- Actively triage issues, PRs, and test failures related to code owned by the SIG.
- Coordinate with other SIGs and the Steering Committee on cross-cutting work.
- Determine, together with the Steering Committee, who is an active contributor eligible to vote on SIG decisions.
SIG Lead candidates need to be Approvers. SIG Leads are appointed by the Steering Committee; if more than one contributor puts themselves forward for a SIG, the Steering Committee will decide between candidates, and may also choose to appoint two co-leads.
How to get involved
There is no public application process — simply reach out directly to the current SIG Lead(s) for the SIG you're interested in, or to the Steering Committee. Any of the following work:
- Message the current SIG Lead(s) directly, e.g. via a DM in the SIG's Slack channel (linked above).
- Email the Steering Committee via the ONNX TSC mailing list.
- Reach out to a current Steering Committee member directly.
In your message, please include:
- Your background and prior contributions to ONNX, especially to this SIG.
- What you'd like to work on — whether that's leading the SIG or another way of contributing.
- The specific topics, projects, or initiatives you'd like to work on or drive.
The Steering Committee reviews statements of interest and appoints SIG Leads. There is no fixed deadline — the SIG Lead openings above remain open until filled, and other ways of getting involved are open on an ongoing basis.
